Grievous Hurt                    

  1. Definition under section 320 I.P.C punishment – 7 to 10 yrs
  2. An injury which is extensive or serious, does not heal rapidly and causes permanent disfigurement and deformity if allowed to follow the natural course of disease.
  3. 8 clauses:
    1. Emasculation
    2. Permanent privation of sight of either eye.
    3. Permanent privation of hearing of either ear.
    4. Privation of any member or joint.
    5. Destruction or permanent impairing of the power of any member or joint.
    6. Permanent disfigurement of the head and face.
    7. Fracture or dislocation of a bone or tooth.
    8. Any hurt:
      1. Which endangers life 
      2. Which causes the victim to be in severe bodily pain 
      3. Unable to follow his ordinary pursuits for a period of 20 days
  4. Punishment For Hurt And Grievous Hurt
    1. 323. I.P.C. Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt. Whoever, except in the case provided for by section
    2. 334 I.P.C. voluntarily causes hurt, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.
    3. 324 I.P.C. Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. Whoever, except in the case provided for by section 334, voluntarily causes hurt by means of any instrument for shooting, stabbing or cutting etc. shall be punished for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.
    4. 325 I.P.C. Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt. Whoever, except in the case provided for by section 335, voluntarily causes grievous hurt, shall be punished for a term which may extend to seven years, and also fine.
    5. 326 I.P.C. Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means. Whoever, except in the case provided for by section 335, voluntarily causes grievous hurt by means of any instrument for shooting, stabbing or cutting etc. shall be punished with [imprisonment for life], or with imprisonment up to ten years, and also fine.
    6. 334 I.P.C. Voluntarily causing hurt on provocation. Whoever voluntarily causes hurt on grave and sudden provocation, shall be punished for a term which may extend to one month, or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees, or with both.
    7. 335 I.P.C. Voluntarily causing grievous hurt on provocation. Whoever voluntarily causes grievous hurt on grave and sudden provocation, shall be punished for a term which may extend to four years, or with fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.
