Intubation induced reflex response which may manifests as laryngospasm, bronchospasm, hypertension and cardiac arrhythmias. To blunt this response following methods are utilized:

a. IV Xylocaine 2-3 minutes before intubation.

b. Xylocaine spray.

c. Increasing the depth of anaesthesia with inhalational agents.

d. Opioids (opioid of choice is sufentanil).

e. P blockers (esmolol).

f. Calcium channel blockers.

Promethazine can increase the chances of reflex disturbances.
