Gram Positive Cocci
Lab studies on a patient revealed an organism showing CAMP positive and bacitracin insensitive. Likely pathogen; (AIIMS May 2011)
a. Group B streptococci or S. agalactiae are identified by positive CAMP test and ability to hydrolyse hippurate.
b. Group A streptococci or S. pyogenes are identified by bacitracin sensitivity.
c. Enterococci are identified by bile esculin test and PYR test positive and ability to grow in 6.5% sodium chloride.
d. S. pneumoniae are identified by optochin sensitivity and bile solubility.
