Latent infection is seen in(DNB Dec 09)
a. Latent infection is a hallmark of herpesviruses. Herpes viruses include CMV, EBV, VZV etc. These latent infection can reactivate later in life.
b. The site of latency differs with different viruses. EBV becomes latent in B lymphocytes. VZV becomes latent in neurones of sensory ganglia. CMV becomes latent in secretory glands and kidneys.
