Leydig cells secrete

A Testostetone
B ABP

C Activin
D inhibin

Ans. A Testostetone

a. Leydig cells secrete testosterone, androstenedione and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), when stimulated by the pituitary hormone luteinizing hormone (LH).

b. LH increases cholesterol desmolase activity (an enzyme associated with the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone), leading to testosterone synthesis and secretion by Leydig cells.

c. Prolactin (PRL) increases the response of Leydig cells to LH by increasing the number of LH receptors expressed on Leydig cells.

Sertoli cells secrete the following substances:

a. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH)

b. Inhibin and activins ,

c. Androgen binding protein ,

d. Estradiol ,

e. Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) ,

f. The Ets related molecule (ERM transcription factor) - needed for maintenance of the spermatogonial stem cell in the adult testis.
