Ans. A Cardiac malformation

a. Lithium is used in the treatment and prophylaxis of mania and bipolar affective disorders and used as a prophylactic agent in unipolar depression, aggressive behavior, schizophrenic disorders and organic brain dysfunction is discussed.

b. Lithium given in early pregnancy; the drug causes cardiac and vascular abnormalities, “Atrialization of right ventricle” is known as Ebstein’s anomaly. It results into displaced and malformed tricuspid valves.

c. Craniofacial abnormalities occur with warfarin. Limb abnormality is seen in thalidomide exposure. Cleft palate and lips are seen in phenytoin exposure during pregnancy. Ref: (CMDT’2010, pp-973)

(Remember: Atrialization of right ventricle” is known as Ebstein’s anomaly
