MAO inhibitors can produce severe reactions like convulsions. hyperpyrexia with opioids (pethidine) and sympathomimetic drugs and these reactions may occur up to 2 weeks after last dose of MAG inhibitors. So they should be stopped 2-3 weeks prior to surgery.
