MC cyst in spleen
a. Pseudocyst do not have epithelial lining and comprises of 70-80% of splenic cyst. The are usually a result of trauma and represent resolution of a subscapular or intraparenchymal hematoma.
b. They vary in size and can be large containing as much as 3lt. of a dark turbid fluid .
c. In over 80% the lesion is unilocular and the cyst wall is dense and smooth.
d. They occur more commonly in women , children and young adult. One third of patients are asymptomatic .
e. The most frequent symptom is left upper quadrant pain radiating to left shoulder. CT, MRI and MRA will define the cystic nature of the lesion.
f. Laparoscopic deroofing & draining the area.
