MTP act permits termination of pregnancy upto (LQ)
In India abortion laws fall under the MTP act passed by the parliament in 1971 and came into force April 1972 and amended once in 1975. Abortions are permitted till 20 wks. Indicationns include: Women whose physical and/or mental health were endangered by the pregnancy.
a. Women facing the birth of a potentially handicapped or malformed child.
c. Pregnancies in unmarried girls under the age of eighteen with the consent of a guardian
d. Pregnancies in "lunatics" with the consent of a guardian
e. Pregnancies that result are a result of failure in sterilization
