Pubic lice

The 'cosmopolitan crab' or 'pubic louse' (Phthirus pubis) is transmitted by sexual contact but can infest eyelashes, axillary hair, and hair in other sites as well as pubic hair. Intensely 'pruritic' lesions and 2 to 3 mm blue macules (maculae ceruleae) develop at the site of bites usually lower abdomen and thigh. Blepharitis commonly accompanies infestations of the eyelashes.
