1,25 (OH) Vit D has an antiproliferative effect on several cell types, including keratinocytes, breast cancer cells, and prostate cancer cells. Alopecia is seen in Vit D hypervitaminosis and Vit D receptor mutation. It exerts a PTH like effect and so, as in underlying rickets, calcium is withdrawn from bones but metastatic calcification occurs.
