a. Implantation of the fertilized ovum outside of the uterine cavity is known as ectopic pregnancy.
b. In about 95% cases, ectopic gestation occurs in the fallopian tube when it is termed as "tubal pregnancy". The most common site is the ampullary portion of the tube, where over 80% occur.
c. The next most common sites are the isthmic segment of the tube (12%), the fimbria (5%), and the cornual and interstitial region of the tube (2%).
d. Non tubal sites of ectopic pregnancy are a rare occurrence, with abdominal pregnancies accounting for 1.4% of ectopic pregnancies and ovarian and cervical sites accounting for 0.2% each.
