1. One of the most severe complications of gynaecological surgeries.

2. Most common site is where the ureter crosses the uterine artery.

3. The second most common site is at Pelvic brim where it is in proximity with infundibulopelvic ligament. Predisposing factors are

a. Uterus > 12 weeks size

b. Ovarian cyst >4 cm

c. PID

d. Endometriosis

e. Previous laparotomy

f. Advanced malignancy

g. Anatomical anomalies of ureter

4. Most common types of injuries are crushing, ligatipon, transection, angulation with obstruction, ischemia due to stripping of ureters, electrosurgical, resection of segment.

5. 70% are noticed postoperatively and present with flank pain, prolonged ileus, watery discharge per vaginum and raised serum creatinine. In bilateral ureteric injury the first sign is anuria.
