1. Congenital hypoplasia or absence of Ute vagina in combination with abnormal or absent uterus (the Mayer Rokitansky - Küster-Hauser syndrome) is second most common cause of primary amenorrhea. Most patients are ascertained after the time of expected puberty because they fail to menstruate.

2. The height is normal, and the breasts, axillary and pubic hair, and habitus are feminine in character.

3. The uterus can vary from almost normal, lacking only a conduit to the introitus, to the characteristic rudimentary bicornuate cords with or without a lumen. The karyotype is 46, XX.
