Mucocele is commonly seen in sinus: [AIIMS Nov 2011]

A Frontal
B Maxillary

C Ethmoid
D Sphenoid

Ans. A Frontal Ref. Dhingra 5th/ed p 211, 6th/ed p 198; Tuli 1 st/ed p 196; Scott Brown 7th/ed Vol 2 p 1531

A mucocele is an epithelial lined, mucus containing sac completely filling the sinus and capable of expansion:

a. Mucocele are most commonly formed in Frontal sinus followed by ethmoid, sphenoid and maxillary sinuses.

b. Mucocele of frontal sinus presents as a swelling in the floor of frontal sinus above the inner (medial) canthus. It displaces the eyeball forward, downward and laterally.

IOC = CTscan

TOC = Endoscopic sinus surgery

According to Dhingra, 6th/ed p 198

a. Least common sinus assopciated with Mucocele formation is sphenoid.

b. But Scott Brown 7th/ed Vol 2 p 1531 says:

Most of the cases of mucocele of sphenoid sinus are referred to neurosurgeons. Therefore, it seems it is less common but actually the sinus least involved by mucocele is maxilla.
