Natural family planning method that uses Cervical mucus characteristics for safe period assessment is (LQ)
Billing’s method uses characteristics of cervical mucus for assessment of fertile period.
a. The cervical mucus during the fertile period is watery, clear, transparent, stretchable (called Spinnbarkiet) and shows ferning .
b. All these occur under the influence of estrogen. BBT identifies the fertile period in the cycle by the rise in the basal body temperature that is measured using a basal body thermometer. The rise in temperature is under the influence of progesterone which is thermogenic. The ovulatory cycles have a biphasic BBT chart while the anovulatory cycles have monophasic BBT chart.
