NEOSTIGMINE is an anticholinesterase which inhibits cholinesterase enzyme that is responsible for hydrolysis of acetylcholine at nerve endings. Thus it potentiates the action of acetylcholine. Therefore, it cannot be used in cholinergic crisis. It is used in myasthenia gravis, postoperative paralytic ileus or urinary retention, decurarization, cobra bite.
