Appearance of pubic hair and Axillary hair
a. Sexual growth is divided into sequential stage of development, from I to 5 -+ Sexual maturity rating (SMR) or Tanner stages -+ SMR I indicates no sexual growth (prepubescent stage) while SMR 5 denotes complete matura-tion. Sexual development begins in SMR2.
b. SMR involves -

i) Pubic hair development
i) Pubic hair develoment
ii) Breast development
ii) Genitalia (Testis, scrotum & penis) bvelopment.
c. First sign of sexual maturation is enlargement of breast in females and testes in boys.
d. Thelarche + Pabarche + Peuk growth velocity + Menarche
e. Thelarche (development of breast buds) is first visible sign of puberty.
f. Pubarche /Adrenarche (development of axillary and pubic hair) is the second sign It occurs about 6-12 months after thelarche
g. Menarche (onset of menstruation) occurs later, about 2.5 years to 6 years after Thelarche.
h. Maximum growth spurt neither occurs at pubarche nor thelarche, but considerably later when breasts and pubic/axillary hairs reach the third stage of development,just prior to onset of menarche, but sequence of events remains as defined.
