Gram Positive Bacilli
Pigbel is caused by: (DNB June 2010)
a. Pigbel also referred, as Necrotizing enteritis is cause by C. perfringens type C.
b. It occurs due to intake of heat resistant spores of Cl. perfringens in pig meat along with sweet potatoes, which contain trypsin inhibitors.
c. Beta toxin that is normally broken down by trypsin in the gut is responsible for this condition.
