1. Lochia - Early in the puerperium, sloughing of decidual tissue results in a vaginal discharge of variable quantity, this is termed lochia

2. Microscopically consists of erythrocytes, shreds of decidua, epithelial cells are bacteria

a. Lochia rubra - blood in lochia first few days

b. Lochia serosa - pale in colour - after 3 or 4 days

c. Lochia - alba - white or yellowish-white color - after the 10th days
