Primary repair of trachea should be carried out with:
|B||Absorbable monofilament suture|
|C||Non-absorbable monofilament suture|
|D||Absorbable braided suture|
a. Injuries of the trachea are repaired using running 3-0 absorbable monofilament suture.
b. Tracheoplastic procedures have been frequently applied to protectpulmonary function in selected malignant and benign disorders inrecent years.
c. Experimental studies have indicated that stenosismay result from the use of nonabsorbable suture for trachealanastomosis.
d. Experimental and human studies have shown thatsynthetic absorbable sutures were superior to nonabsorbablesutures in preventing anastomosis stricture and suture reac-tions.
e. Absorbable sutures caused less reaction and abscess formationthan nonabsorbable material.
f. Less granulation tissue has alsobeen noted with nonabsorbable suture.
g. Even similar histopathologic findings are seenin fibrosis and granulation tissue formation ,which is significantlyless with absorbable sutures compared to Ethibond.
h. If nonabsorbablesuture material must be used, subepithelial insertion is suggestedto prevent the development of granulation tissue.
i. PDS was noted to minimizeinflammation after tracheal anastomosis.
