Regarding Phenytoin, false is:

A Induces microsomal enzymes

B At very low doses, zero order kinetics occurs

C Higher the dose, higher is the half life

D Highly protein bound

Ans. B At very low doses, zero order kinetics occurs

a. Phenytoin is a commonly used drug for generalized seizures and was discovered by Merit and Putnam in 1938.

b. The drug acts by inhibiting depolarization shift. The drug is well absorbed by oral route and has a half life of 15-30 hours.

c. However, it changes with increase in drug dose. That means, more the dose, more is the half life. In other words, the drug follows zero order at high dose.
