Individuals at high risk of contact with rabies virus, including veterinarians, cave explorers, laboratory workers, and animal handlers should receive pre-exposure prophylaxis with rabies vaccine. Human Diploid Cell Vaccine is used for pre-exposure prophylaxis; three 1ml intramuscular or three 0.1 ml intradermal injections on days 0, 7, and 21 or 28 should be administered. Further booster injections should be administered at intervals of 2 years as long as exposed person remains at risk.
