Resazurin test is done to(DNB June-11)
|A||Detect bacterial contamination in milk|
|B||Estimate water content in milk|
|C||Detect chemical impurities in the food|
|D||Detect pollution in the air|
The tests used for examining bacteria present in raw milk are:
Viable count - It is detected by plate counts with serial dilutions of the milk samples.
Methylene blue reduction test
a. An indirect method for detection of microorganisms in milk, which depends on reduction of MB.
b. R/O reduction is related to degree of bacterial contamination.
It is also a dye reduction test similar to methylene blue dye test. Reduction of resazurin by bacteria passes through a series of color changes-blue to pink to colorless, which depends upon degree of contamination.
