Spindle shaped expansion of the bone seen in TB dactylitis
a. Tuberculous infection of the small bones like metatarsals Phalanges and Metacarpals is called TB dactylitis. It is uncommon after the age of 5 years.
b. The first inoculum of infection is lodged in the centre of the marrow cavity and the interior of the short tubular bone is converted into a tuberculous granuloma.
c. This leads to a spindle shaped expansion of the bone the so called spina ventosa
