Spinnbarkeit phenomenon is due to: (LQ)

A Elasticity of cervical mucus

B Cells of cervical mucosa

C Vaginal secretion

D All of the above

Ans. A

Elasticity of cervical mucus

1. Evaluation of the elasticity of cervical mucus is used to determine time of ovulation.

2. The cervical secretion is aspirated and place on a slide.

3. Spinnbarkeit is measured by pulling upward on the secretion with a forceps.

4. At the time of' ovulation cervical mucus is thin and profuse.

5. This ovulation mucus has the property of great elasticity and will withstand stretching up to a distance of over 10 cm (this phenomenon is known as spinnbarkeit or the thread test for estrogen activity).

6. During the secretor phase the cervical mucus becomes more tenacious and its viscosity increases so that' it loses the property of spinnbarkeit and 'fractures' when put under tension.
