Stimulation for gastric emptying:

A Secretin
B CCK
C Gastrin
D Distension

Ans. C Gastrin

Regulation of stomach Emptying:

I. The weak gastric factors that promote empty in: -(stomach emptying is promoted by the intense peristaltic contraction of the stomach antrum).

a. Effect of gastric food volume on rate of emptying:

i. ed food volume in the stomach increased emptying from stomach.

ii. Food rich in carbohydrate leaves-the stomach in a few hours.

iii. Protein-rich food leaves more slowly and emptying is slowest after a meal containg fat.

b. Effects of Hormones-Gastrin on stomach emptying gastrin enhances the activity of pyloric pump and aids at least to some degree in promoting stomach emptying

c. [Note Excitement is said to hasten gastric emptying and fear to slow it].

  1. The Powerful Duodenal Factors that Inhibit Emptying:.

a. Inhibitory Effects of Enterogastric Nervous Reflex from Duodenonum: - The factors which can excite the enterogastric reflex are:

i. Degree of the distention of duodenum

ii. Presence of any degree of irritation of duodenal mucosa.

iii. Degree of acidity (H+) of the duodenal chyme

iv. Break downs products of protein and to lesser extent of fats in the chyme

v. The degree of osmolality of chyme

b. Hormones feed back from duodenum inhibits gastric emptying ~Role of fats and CCK

i. CCK acts as a competitive inhibitor to block the increased stomach motility caused by gastrin. Thus inhibits emptying

ii. Secretin and GIP all inhibit gastric emptying

iii. Peptide IT inhibit gastric mortality.
