Greenish discoloration over right iliac fossa
a. The first sign of putrefaction is ‘Colour changes’. Greenish discolouration in Rt. iliac fossa (due to SulphmetHb) over the caecum area is formed in 12-18 hrs in summer →later spreads to entire abdomen → genitalia → chest →neck → face →arms → legs. Internally, this is seen on the undersurface of liver where the liver is in contact with transverse colon. The earliest internal change is a reddish-brown discolouration of the inner surface of blood vessels, especially of the aorta.
b. Eyeballs become swollen in 36-48 hours.
c. Marbling of chest skin occurs in 36-48 hours. Froth from mouth & nostrils (post-mortem purge) is seen after 12-18 hours.
