Mechanical Coating Of The Walls Of Intestine
1. Trophozoof Giardia adhere to the epithelium and they do not cause invasor locally destructive alterations at the site of attachment.
2. The loss of brush border enzyme activities lead to development of lactose intolerance and significant malabsorption in a small number of infected adults and children.
3. Generally the morphology of-the bowel is unaltered but in chronically infected and symptomatic patients, the histopathological findings, including flattened villi and the clinical features resemble with those of tropical sprue and gluten-sensitenteropathy.
The pathogenesis of diarrhea in GIARDIASIS is not clearly known.
