Thiazide causes all except (DNB Dec 2012)
|B||Increased calcium excretion|
|C||Increased blood uric acid levels|
|D||Used in CCF|
Hypercalcemia occurs due to thiazide therapy and occurs because, these prevent movement of calcium down renal tubules. That is why, thiazides are used in treatment of hyperparathyroidism and renal stones of calcium oxalate type. They are also the drug of choice for idiopathic hypercalciuria-also called as Dent’s disease.
