Thyroid & Adrenal
Thyroid gland moves up and down due to its relation with:
|C||General investing layer|
a. The thyroid gland has a true and false capsule.
b. The true capsule is peripheral condensation of connective tissue of the gland.
c. The false capsule is derived from the PRETRACHEAL FASCIA LAYER of the cervical fascia. This layer is thin along the posterior border of both lobes but is thick on the inner surface of the gland where it forms the SUSPENSPORY LIGAMENT OF BERRY which connects the thyroid to the cricoid cartilage.
d. As cricoid cartilage is part of larynx and it moves with deglutition , hence thyroid also moves with deglutition.
