a. Genetic Linkage reflects proximity of genes on a chromosome. Suppose we are seeking a gene involved in causation of a disease. If close by that gene a locus is identified for eg. RFLP or SSR short sequence repeats also known as microsatelites.

b. Microsatelites are better markers as they can afford much wider spectrum of polymorphism. Then these loci can serve as marker loci for studies on inheritance and isolation of diseased gene.

c. If the marker loci are adjacent to the gene in question the two loci will show tight linkage when studied in members of family afflicted with the disease.
