a. The optimum level of iron for toxin production is 0.1mg/l. higher concentrations of iron >0.5mg/l inhibit toxin production.
b. Carrier state can never be prevented by immunization.
c. Lab diagnosis consists of isolation of the bacterium from throat swab and demonstration of toxigenicity.
d. No antibodies are formed in the blood as there is no invasion of the bacterium.
e. Prophylaxis of contacts is recommended. In non-immunized erythromycin prophylaxis is given. In immunized a booster of DT is recommended.
