True statement about rabies is:
|A||Symptomatic rabies infection is non fatal|
|B||Rabies vaccine for human use is live attenuated|
|C||Rabies virus shows no antigenic variation|
|D||Rabies can be diagnosed by immunoflu-orescence test|
Rabies virus is a bullet shaped, single stranded RNA containing virus belonging to family Rhabdoviridae.
More that 99% of the infections in humans are symptomatic.
Rabies virus has a single serotype, however, antigenic differences among viruses isolated from different animals have been recognized. Only killed vaccines are used in humans.
Diagnosis is by isolation of the virus, detection of specific antibodies by serology, detection of viral antigen (immunofluorescence) or inclusion body (Negri bodies) in the infected tissue or detection of viral nucleic acid by RTPCR.
