Uveitis Associated with Arthritis

  1. Ankylosing Spondylitis*- Inflammatory arthritis involving axial skeleton leading to fixed flexion deformity
    1. HLA – B – 27 associated
    2. Acute, recurrent, non-granulomatous iritis
    3. Negative RA factor
  2. Reiter’s syndrome*
    1. Constitutes triad of -
      • Urethritis
      • Conjunctivitis
      • Sero – negative arthritis, HLA – B 27 associated
    2. Ocular features -
      • Bilateral, mucopurulent conjunctivitis
      • Acute iritis
      • Keratitis
  3. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis*
    1. JRA is idiopathic inflammatory arthritis of at least 3 months developing in children below age of 16 years.
    2. 70% BILATERAL
 
  • Chronic, non – granulomatous, bilateral anterior uveitis
  • Also called ‘ white uveitis’* as it is rarely associated with photophobia, redness, pain
  1. Complications –
    1. Band Keratopathy – Commonest*
