Varicella zoster becomes latent in : (AIIMS Nov 2011)
a. After a primary infection the VZV becomes latent in sensory ganglion of trigeminal nerve or dorsal root ganglion.
b. It can reactivate later and manifest as zoster or shingles. Most common site of reactivation is the D3 to L2 dermatomes. Ramsay Hunt syndrome is reactivation of VZV in the geniculate ganglion of facial nerve.
