Amino Acids, Proteins and Porphyrins
Which is a denaturing agent
Denaturation of protein: defined as the disruption of the secondary tertiary and quaternary structure of the native protein resulting in the alternation of the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the protein by a variety of agent. Denaturing agents: -
a. Physical agents: - Heat, ultraviolet light, ultrasound, high pressure
b. Chemical agents: - Acids, alkalies heavy metals, urea, ethanol, guanidine, detergents etc.
Urea and guanidine probably interfere with the hydrogen bonds between peptide linkages.
