e. ↑ed oxidation of FFA and their product ketone bodies →sparing the non obligatory oxidation of glucose maintain blood glucose level
f. In prolonged starvation → body adapt, to use ketone and FFA as source of energy sparing the glucose i.e. in prolonged starvation, glucose contributes less than 5% of total substrates oxidized in the whole body Further maintain blood glucose
g. ↑Glucagon /insulin Ratio → Activate Hormone sensitive Lipase →↑FFA→↑oxidation of FFA or
↑esterification→Ketogenesis and Hyper-triglyceridemia.
h. Cholesterol synthesis → the major regulatory enzyme is HMG-CoA reductase→ Activity is ↑ed by ↑ed Insulin and ↑ed glucagon level. But in starvation and DM the condition is reverse i.e. ↓ed Insulin and ↑ed glucagon, therefore, ↓ed cholesterol synthesis →and therefore no Hypercholesterolemia
i. So, in starvation → counter regulatory mechanisms →maintain glucose level in blood.
