Which of the following in used to transport cholesterol from intestine to liver

A Apo B
B Apo C

C Apo A
D None

Ans. A APO-B

Lipoprotein

Main Apo-lipoprotein

Function

* chylomicron

B AI, AII, E

B-48

Main transporter of dietary Triglyceride from Intestine to Liver- exogenous cholesterol and TG transporter

* LDL

B-100

Main cholesterol carrier in Blood endogenous cholesterol carrier to the peripheral tissue

* HDL

AI, AII

Transport cholesterol from peripheral tissue to liver for excretion, cardio protective

  1. APO—B —100 is the major apolipoprotein of VLDL, IDL and LDL, 30, 60, and 90% of these lipoprotein respectively
  2. APO-B-48 is essential for the assembly and secretion of chylomicron.
  3. APO AI, APO A II AND APO A IV - are found primarily on HDL APO A-I 70-80% of the protein of HDL m. c. abundant APO All 2nd m. c. in HDL.
  4. APO AI Inversely related to CHD, and —LCAT activator
  5. APO C-II Activator of Lipoprotein lipase LPL
  6. APO - C-III Inhibitor of LPL
  7. Chylomicron contain maximum triglycerides 80-95% and 1-2% protein min
  8. LDL contain maximum cholesterol 40-50%
  9. VLDL Transport endogenous TG from Liver to muscles and adipose tissue

Transport of the Dietary Lipid

Exogenous pathway

Thus exogenous cholesterol that reaches to Liver, is transported through Chylomicron remnant and it contains both Apo-B48 and Apo-E. Thus I have selected ans Apo-B48 because this Apo-B48 remains present throughout the journey. Also note that B-48 is major apolipoprotein of both chylomicron and chylomicron remnants.
