Kyasanur Forest Disease is caused by a tick-borne flavivirus. The incubation period is estimated to 8 days. It causes a syndrome of viral hemorrhagic fever during a wave of viremia and that may also enter the central nervous system to cause subsequent viral encephalitis. There is no treatment for these infections, but an inactivated vaccine has been used in India against it. KFD virus is a member of a group B togaviruses (flavivirus).
