Which of the following is the function of M cells in intestine: (DNB Dec-2008)
|A||Antigen presenting cells|
|B||Meisner plexus cells|
|C||Mucous secreting glands|
|D||All of the above|
I. Absorption of protein antigens (bacterial and viral proteins) takes place in the large MICROFOLD CELLS OR M CELLS.
II. These M cells are specialized intestinal epithelial cells which pass the antigen to lymphoid cells and lymphoblasts.
III. These activated lymphoblasts enter the circulation and return to intestinal mucosa to secrete IgA in response to subsequent exposure from same antigen.
