Which of the following is not shared between T cells and B cells? AIPG 12
|A||Positive selection during development|
|B||Class 1 MHC expression|
|D|| all of the above|
Both B and T cells have the BCR and the TCR on their surfaces that recognize specific antigens.
All nucleated cells including B cells and the T cells express Class I MHC on their surfaces.
T cells during thymic development undergo positive selection; that is only those T cells that recognize antigens with MHC molecules receive survival cells and the rest undergo apoptosis.
T cells also undergo negative selection; that is self reactive T cells are eliminated within the thymus.
B cells similarly undergo negative selection in the bone marrow. Since they are not MHC restricted they do not undergo positive selection.
