Amoebic Liver Abscesses

i. Amoebic liver abscesses are caused by Entamoebahistolytica infection.

ii. Abscesses are usually large, single and located in the right lobe.

iii. Pain or swelling are the most common symptoms.

iv. Diagnosis may depend on cyst aspiration revealing the classic anchovy sauce appearance of the of the cyst fluid.

Treatment

Metronidazole or Tinidazole + Luminal agent (Diloxanidefuroate or Iodoquinol or Paromomycin)
