Question
6 out of 17

Which of the following is an antiapoptotic gene?(LQ)

A C-myc
B P53
C Bcl-2
D Bax

Ans. C i.e. Bcl - 2

Cell survival is affected by gene that promote (proapoptotic gene) or inhibit apoptosis (antiapoptotic gene).

a. Proapoptotic gene (decrease tumor growth) - Bax, Bad - Bcl-xS,

- BID - BAK

b. Antiapoptotic gene (increased cell proliferation): - BcI-2 - Bcl-XL - MCL-1

Remember: - Most common translocation in lymphoid malignancies is t (14: 18) translocation, causes activation of BcI-2 gene.

P53 has proapoptotic action (by upregulation of bax gene) and c-myc is apoptotic in the absence of growth factors.
