Ans. A Alcoholic DH
  1. Zinc is a biologically ubiquitous element (present in all phyla) and known to be indispensable for growth and development. It is present, and essential, in at least one enzyme of each of the six classes established by the International Union of Biochemistry.
  2. Zinc containing enzymes are 'lactate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, Carboxypeptidase A; β-lactamase; Carbonic anhydrase; Alcohol dehydrogenase.
  3. The therapeutically important zinc-containing enzyme families of carbonic anhydrases, histone deacetylases and the ADAM (A DisintegrinAndMetalloprotease domain) family of proteinases, in particular ADAM17, also known as TACE (TNF-α Converting Enzyme) are very important.
Some important Zn containing Enzymes are
  1. 5-methyltetrahydropteroyltriglutamate-homocysteine S-methyltransferase
  2. Alcohol dehydrogenase
  3. Carbon monoxide dehydrogenase
  4. D-2-hydroxy-acid dehydrogenase
  5. Galactitol-1-phosphate 5-dehydrogenase
  6. Glutamate carboxypeptidase II
  7. Glutamylaminopeptidase
  8. Insulin degrading enzyme
  9. Lactoylglutathionelyase
