osteomalacia is due to ? (AIPG 2011)
|A||Failure of bone remodeling|
|B||Failure of bone mineralization|
|C||Failure of osteoid formation|
|D||Reactive bone formation|
Osteomalacia (soft bones) is a disorder of adults characterized by inadequate mineralization of newly formed bone matrix and is most often associated with abnormalities of vitamin D metabolism (such as dietary deficiency or intestinal malabsorption of vitamin D), hypoparathyroidism, or chronic renal diseases. Rickets is a similar condition that occurs in children. Defective mineralization results in an increase in the thickness of the osteoid seams.
