Principle of Superposition of Electrostatic Fields

The principle of superposition states that the total resultant electric field at a point is the vector sum of the component fields.
 
We consider a general system with the following charges:
  • A number of point charges q1q2, …, qn
  • A line charge distribution with density λ (C/m)
  • A surface charge distribution with density σ (C/m2)
  • A volume charge distribution with density ρ (C/m3)
