Testing Strength of Arguments
STATEMENT : Should all news be controlled by Government in a democracy?
ARGUMENTS : I. Yes. Variety of news only confuses people. II. No. Controlled news loses credibility.
|A||if only assumption I is implicit|
|B||if only assumption II is implicit;|
|C||if either I or II is implicit|
|D||if neither I nor II is implicit|
|E||if both I and II are implicit.|
(i) Weak: It is an opinion that variety of news confuses people. It is upon the people to choose the type and channel they want to see, devoid of confusion.
(ii) Strong: It is a generally accepted truth. If the news is controlled, or if the government will make the people aware of what they want them to be aware of, the news will lose its credibility. All news events will be manipulated in the favour of government.
