Testing Strength of Arguments
STATEMENT : Should we scrap the ‘Public Distribution System’ in India?
ARGUMENTS : I. Yes. Protectionism is over, everyone must get the bread on his/her own.
II. Yes. The poor do not get any benefit because of corruption.
|A||if only assumption I is implicit|
|B||if only assumption II is implicit;|
|C||if either I or II is implicit|
|D||if neither I nor II is implicit|
|E||if both I and II are implicit.|
(i) Weak: It is an extreme argument. It is the responsibility of the government to take care of its citizens. The poor and unprivileged cannot be left on their own, without help of the government.
(ii) Weak: Again an extreme argument as it cannot be accepted that people do not get “any” benefit because of corruption.
