Section-D: Comprehension Type
The phenomenon of increase in concentration of the species on the surface of a solid than in the bulk is called adsorption. The solid substance on the surface of which adsorption occurs is called adsorbent. The molecular species that get adsorbed on the solid surface is called adsorbate. The common surface between the two phases where the adsorbed molecuels concentrate is called interface. Absorption is the bulk phenomenon in which a substance is uniformly distributed throughout the substance and occurs at a uniform rate. Based upon the intermolecular attractions between adsorbent and adsorbate, adsorption is classified into physisorption and chemisorption.
Which conditions favour physisorption?
